An Epidemiological Study on Malaria in the Republic of Korea Foces, Vietnam

Abstract
An epidemics logical study on malaria wias done, in the Republic, of Korea Forces, Vietnam (ROKFV) during the period from November, 1965 to December, 1967 and the following results were obtained;
1. Incidence rate of malaria in the Republic of Korea Forces varied according to the located area with the range of 1.0 to more than 200,0 (per 1,000% year). And it was presumed that October is the highest epidemic month in the ROK area.
2. Malaria incidence in the ROK forces was mainly influenced by the following major factors, the dencity of malaria in areas, duration of exposure to malaria vectors, personal attitude for malaria prophylatic measures and the seasonality.
3. Frequency of malaria species in Korean malaria patients (2347 cases) was 82.7% of Plasmodium falciparum, 14.4% of Plasmodium vivax, and 2.9% of P. falciparum and P. vivax mixed.
4. Malaria incidence rate of returnee from Vietnam was 2.4 per 1,000 troop.
5. The incubation period of malaria was estimated as 13.4 days in this study.
6. The case fatality of malaria in the Korean forces was laid between 0.8%(1965, 1966) to 0.3%(1967).
